Brown skin girl, skin just like pearls,

the best thing in the world,

i’ll never trade you for anybody else.

I’ll be the first to admit that these lyrics live in my head rent free at this point. And rightfully so as they should. To embody the richness of these words as we speak them back to ourselves and to our loved ones, is to perform an act of kindness and compassion towards the recipient, whether it be yourself or another woman.

In today’s hyper-competitive society, it is easy to fall victim to the pressures of social media & the Internet and so we find ourselves forgetting to show love and give reverence to the things that define who we are at our core. Our Skin. Our Hair. Our Background. These are things specifically tailored by the Creator, and given to us solely so that we are able to use them to navigate through our life experiences. But because of the hyper-competitive nature of the 21st century, we often times end up getting lost in the sauce.

Instead of finding permanent solutions to fix temporary problems, we end up choosing easy substitutes to fix those complex problems. We forget how to love our bodies, so we opt for cosmetic surgery. We forget how to love each other, so we opt for indifference of others. We forget how to come together, so we opt for misplaced individuality instead.

Tuning in, coming back to self and realizing that our greatest potentials will always stem from within is the first step to embodying and showing up as the best version of ourselves. There is work still to be done.

Be kind to yourself and remember to breathe through the process. Manifesting good will and an abundance of blessings.
